Break or Break

It's the time of the year when the office would be quite quiet and empty. It's coming to year end and children's holiday period. Hence a good time to plan a holiday. Or go for a break.

A very common sign that I observe here in Singapore is that our bodies often break down after the break. Why? You see, in Singapore it is common that we have 10 to 14 days of vacation leave a year. Hence vacations must be very well-planned. Often strategically placed before or after public holidays. And no matter where the destination is, Singaporeans being Singaporeans, will strive to be "effective" to visit as many landmarks as possible. We are the Kia Su people (Definition: People who are afraid and do not want to lose out to others), and that can also show in the way we holiday.
As a result?
We see many people calling in sick immediately after they have gone for vacation. Such is very common.
But is that not strange? Holidays are meant to recharge and rejuvenate. For us to come back refreshed with that omph to face the various demands of our lives again.
I am planning my vacation to Burma in a few weeks time. Call me the Lazy Breed. We will be spending seven rather own-time-own-target days there. On top of the most important agenda of visiting the ailing grandma of my husband, our most important target will be to relax.
Have you planned your year end vacation? Hope you plan to give your body a break and not to break it with any mad rush.

I never go anywhere for the year end.... too cold...too crowded...too whatever...but have a good trip and a good rest up! This year has gone by quickly hasn't it???
I see you've gone for the simple white motif! Ha!

GREAT vacation plan and post! After our trip to Indo and Sgp, we won't have any vacation in December. We'll just spend it together on X-mas eve and day with my in-laws. ;-D LOVE IT!!!

Your vacation to Burma sounds just right! To me, vacation means "change"- that's all. The change can be simply not working or not going to school, and that's often enough for me. I like to use the time to catch up on whatever may have fallen by the wayside, and then I really can come back rejuvenated. I learned this the hard way, by realizing that travel can be very stressful!

Hugs,
Betty

It's true, I often come back from a vaction feeling like I need another one. Another feeling creeps in after a holiday which makes one feel kinda depressed too. It's the back to work routine and end of the sights, brunches, new experiences that make it so dreary.

Yours sounds wonderful. You will come back feeling recharged. Perhaps after experiencing the tranquility in Burma, you will find Singapore too hectic and noisy.

Jyankee!

How's everything? Ok? I wish you luck.

Yups year end is the time when everyone goes on holiday. Mad rush to make hotel and flight ticket bookings. Every year I told myself to use up my leave before year end. But only to realise that time passes so quickly and I am once again at the end of the year. I must clear my leave.

Oh well, Burma is not exactly a very favourite spot for vacation. so I guess there will not be a big crowd like other destinations.

Hi Amel,

Spending quiet time together with loved ones during holiday season sounds really good to me too! I am sure you would be taking lots of pics and sharing with us.

Betty,

You are right. If one really plans too many things to do, it can really be very stressful. It becomes a mad running around. I don't like that for sure :-)

Ting,

Oh you describe it so aptly! That's the Post Vacation Syndrome so commonly contacted after a pack vacation.

I am glad my husband and I are similar in our choice of a good vacation. It's not so much the sigh-seeings. For us, it's more important the recharging of our bodies and spending quality time together.

You would be having a great vacation too, yourself! Would CH being joining you?
