Accidental Murder

Iwas on my way to the bus stop to take a bus back home after dinner at mum's last Friday. It rained the whole day and I noticed a snail in the middle of the pedestrian path. As I walked past the snail, I got worried that it might get crashed by the footsteps of some passerbys who might not noticed this "fellow pedestrian".
I walked back in the hope of picking up the snail to help it reach it's "destination" - the grasspatch of the other side of the path. Before I could pick it up, I noticed two cyclists coming my way. I stopped to wait for them to go by first.
To my horror, being the more "prominent" pedestrian on the path, the two cyclists were both more focused to avoid me than this other fellow pedestrian. The snail met it's horrible doomsday of being run over by the second cyclist. I was so shocked as I stood there witnessing the death of this little creature. I think I must have let out quite a loud "oh!". The second cyclist stopped to look at me for quite a few seconds. He must have thought that he had run over my foot or something.
This little incident left me in shock as I continued my way to the bus stop. The "pop" sound of its shell crashing and the image of the mass of liquidy flesh kept coming to me.
In the attempt of saving it. I had indirectly caused its death. Is it not ironical?

You think???? Don't be so hard on yourself...nature is weird..but anyways..maybe the snail has gone to snail heaven...

WaterLearner said...

Jyankee,

You sure? It has gone to Heaven? Thanks for telling me that! I really feel quite bad about it! I have a weakness for snails. They look like such fragile creatures. Thinking their think "crispy" shells can protect them.

Hey Karen, well at least you had the good intention of saving the creature's life. Take comfort in that yeah? Love and hugs for u and hey.. snail heaven sounds cute! ;)

Did anyone get the number of that bicycle? LOL! Damn, I shouldn't be making a joke out of this ...

It's the thot that counts, isn't it? I'm sure that snail would understand :D Besides, like Marzie said above, snail heaven sounds cute.

this was written in the cutest way.
my sis once wrote of a cock=roach murder in a satirical way that i still find humorous-- like twenty years later-- and with my memorey--i remember little of the whole story.

anyhow, yes yankee came up with a good way to think of it. "snail heaven" :))
besides... when it's your time to go--- it's your time to go.
dontcha think-- maybe you actually helped him on his journey-- and did no harm at all???

laterz
and thanks for comin by soul land..
i will be back to see more of your world later--
have a great day.

Ahhh...life has lots of ironies indeed. Sorry to hear about this experience! :-((((

Hey Marz,

Thanks for the hugs. They really made me feel better.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the humour :-). Was feeling kind of heavy witnessing it's death. Which makes me reflect that sometimes good intentions really might not necessarily end up with good results.

For all you know, if I did not try to save it, it would actually be safe. 'Cos the cyclist would not have to avoid me. Chances of running over the poor snail would be very much lesser. Right?

Hi Karen,

You are indeed a very kind hearted person.

This scripture says so:
"A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. (Luke 6:45)

Blessings to you my dear friend.
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.

Karen, I'm here... I did visit you yesterday before you put up the post ;p

I've similiar experience too, the image of the dead creature was still vividly in my mind. How helpless were they. The sound of the shell cracking so hard to bear *sob*

Hi Karen,

This sort of incident happened to me in the past too! None the less, this impermanance is life.

WaterLearner said...

Ting,

"Oops" is really the first thing in my mind when I witnessed it.

WaterLearner said...

Hi Life Reflection,

Yes. Indeed Life is impermanent. Even more so for snails with abodes so very fragile.

Thanks for commenting and your visit. I appreciate that.

Blessings!

When I was a child out fishing with my father, I caught a huge flounder! My dad said it was the biggest flounder he'd ever seen. When I saw it fighting for it's life, hanging on it's hook...I made my dad throw him back in the water...hehe:)

You didn't cause the snail's death Karen...but it does show what a kind spirit you are!

WaterLearner said...

Haha Bobby!

You really did? And you Dad actually gave in? Wow .. That's very kind ... to think that it was the biggest flounder that he'd ever seen!!

Good to see you Bobby. As usual!!
