We clean ourselves everyday. For me, the essence of a refreshing good start of the morning is a good warm shower. The water neither too warm nor cold. Gets me all geared up to a good new day.
It occurred to me recently that, just as it is important for us to keep our physical bodies clean and refreshed, more important is it to cleanse our mental and emotional departments. It is a good and non-time-consuming exercise to clean our inner beings as we go through the motions of cleaning our bodies.
As I wash my hair, I contemplate on ill-thoughts in my mind,
With Awareness, I rid these ill-thoughts from me;
Mothers often remind their children to clean their ears,
Important indeed, to rid myself of bad speech that has affected my inner being;
As I brush my teeth and rinse my mouth,
I contemplate of the type of speech that I offered to those around me -
Be it in verbal or in writing;
As I scrub my hands and legs,
I remind myself to be aware of my own actions in my everyday life;
Last but not least,
Beneath my chest where my heart lies,
Is the one most difficult and yet most crucial part of cleansing,
Anger, Delusion, Confusion, Judgement ..
Among many negativities,
Reside in this space inside us.
For me, cleansing this department is a task most difficult.

With this I ask you again ..
Have You Showered Today?

Very enlightening post. Last week when attended a Buddhist Dhamma Talk, the guru also mentioned the same that we should cleanse ourself not just externally but internally too.
Congrats for being getting PR4.

Hi Sam,
We get into such states once in a while. Alas! We are all mortal beings subject to many external factors that we can't control at times.
I was quite stressed up at work the last two weeks as well. And guess what snapped me out of the dirt pit? A fellow colleague in the cubicle next to mine was chatting with me on some current projects. Being so close to me geographically, it was not difficult for him to sense the stress levels in me. He told me quite quietly, "Karen, this is just a job. So long as the management knows that you have done your part and your objectives have been met then just focus on that. Too many factors are just beyond your control. Don't lose sleep and happiness over it. Take it easy."
I spent quite a while thinking over what he said to me after the conversation ended. After which I went to the pantry, made myself a cup of nice hot coffee and told myself to do just what he said.
I am not sure what the cause of your stress it. Being in IT line, I am sure you have your fair share of project deadlines and frustrations. I hope you do not lose your cool over them.
Blessings!
Karen ur advice to Sam was very kind, thank you!
Hi Winston,
I am a fan of Sam's site. Naturally we are all concerned when he is affected in his work life.
Thanks for coming by. Good to see you!
I think I should ask my boss to read your article.
I have to shower a minimum of 4 times a day !!!
Jam,
Do you mean you boss does not shower? ...
Spiff!
FOUR TIMES A DAY? Wow ... that's a lot!! Max for me is three times a day.
Hi Karen,
Thanks for cheering me up. Actually, it has nothing to do with others. It has to do with my own inner self or feeling. Last couple of weeks many things had happened. There are funerals to attend to, marriage dinner, success celebration dinner, vacation trip, sickness, etc. Somehow, I had been overwhelm pondering too much over all these! Frankly speaking till today, I still haven't fully regain my health and vitality.
BTW, your blog have a great new header! That's very nice.
Blessings
