John Kennedy said,"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them."What is the meaning of living by gratitude? When we talk about spirituality, what is the meaning of living out the spirituality. Instead of discussing it, blogging about it, or teaching it.
Whatever goodness that we learn in the quest to refine our inner self, I find that it is always easier to apply what we have learnt to the outside world compared to those closest to us.
I ask myself this. Is it not easier for me to say a simple Thank You to the cleaner who is paid to clean the office when she was making her rounds to clean our working desk compared to thanking my husband who bought dinner back for me on his way back from work? Am I not taking his kindness for granted? Am I not being ungrateful?
If we bump into someone on the bus, our natural reaction is to say sorry. Is it then just as easy to apologize to your close one who have waited 10 minutes for you because you were late? No. Most of the time, our close ones are supposed to understand why we are late.
Many simple theories .. are hardest to put into practice on those closest to us. Why? For me, the reason is because I have this tendency of taking those close to us for granted.
I have read quite many good books on Spirituality. I even had the opportunity to listen to some great teachings from very good and down-to-earth Spiritual Masters. But I feel that, all that I know is considered void if I can't even put whatever I know into practice on those who are closest to me.
I write this post to remind myself to get down-to-earth. Whatever I have heard, I strive to first put into practice as I am among my closest kin. It may begin with a simple Sorry or Thank You with sincerity, but well, like what Lao Tze said, "A Journey of a Thousand Miles, Must begin with the First Step."

Thanks for the reminder.

Let's Acquire Wisdom and Live with Passion

Karen... love that feet...! I want to make one with my family's feet.. :-)
Yes, I agree with you, spirituality begins from home!
True enough. LOVE this post!!!
Add to the fact that when we get angry at ourselves, sometimes we lash it out on our loved ones...simply because they're there!!!
Hi Water Learner,
You have touched a very vital topic..spirituality.
Spirituality is a domain of awareness. Deepak Chopra
One should always be aware of his/her actions, dealing with others i.e.with friends, relatives, outsiders etc etc.
"The longest journey (spiritual)
Is the journey inwards'..
Spirituality tells us what the true reality is and how we can discover it here on earth...
Thanks for sharing your noble views.
God bless you.
Hi Sam!
Heehee .. actually this post was intended more to remind myself of my own weakness to work on rather than to remind others. Thanks for your comments!
Blessings!

Hi Awesome Tom!!
Yes indeed. Reflecting and being aware of our own weaknesses benefits no one greater than me myself. It is with this thought that I am sharing my weaknesses here "live". To ensure that I will work on getting better.
Thanks & Blessings!
Hey Trin..
Thanks! If you need help on the feet .. let me know :-)
Yeah .. Spirituality should realistically begin from home.
Blessings!
Hi Amel!
Yes .. It was with such a thought in mind that I penned this post to remind myself to never take those close to me for granted.
Blessings & Thanks for your encouraging comments!
Hi Lili!
Thanks for your encouragement! Your good blog is a good and inspiring read itself!
Blessings & Smiles!
Hi Surjit!
I can't agree more on the quote from Deepak Chopra! Yes. Indeed the longest spiritual journey is not the one of searching outwards. It is one of conscientiously searching inwards.
Thanks for your good comments! I have enjoyed quite a few good books by Deepak Chopra myself.
Blessings!
Karen,
I found the sound that Im searching for a long time in blogosphere. Thats YOU.
I learned alot of knowledge and understanding in my personal training course, Core Value. How to look into the deepest of myself.
I got all these tool on hand but did I had aware enough to realise the incident and apply the tools to it?
Without high awareness, you actually cant practise the tools into ur real life. Practise makes us perfect in feeling gratitute.
I still need some support to make a difference in my family conflict. It also reflect that how much understanding that I have on myself.
I love your post. Its about awareness, practise and gratitude. All are the great word of life.
Great post there.. how could we never gratitude for what we`ve had. thanks for sharing sis... GBU
Cheers..
I know this is a long time ago but I wish to comment on this--thank you Karen for sharing.
I have this problem too-- I realize at home it's hard to thank ppl and apologize, while outside we always do such 'courtesies'. Why?
I think it's pride. To appear polite outside, while our poor loved ones get our true colours, haha!
I have this problem too, so must work on it. I agree with u, sometimes when say 'thank u' or 'sorry' sincerely, we have taken one more step to learning.
Thank u for this reminder, i was studying for exams but i came over to ur blog, haha :D
