Say No Evil - A Letter to All Campers

A big thank you to all that have joined me in this humble camp. I am touched that so many kind souls are willing to walk this path because of my short comings. Thank you campers!!

I am not one with creative genes in me. My shallow experience amounts to only the simple logo that I have done using powerpoint. Your Camp Servant, WaterLearner, is here to put up this post in response to some questions and points that she has received from her honourable campers in the past two days.

No Lying
No Flowery Speech
No Harsh Speech

I am sure many of my good campers can achieve with far stricter rules and longer duration. These rules, ashamed to admit, are the basic that your camp servant is setting for herself to devote her awareness to these areas of her weakness. Your presence definitely is a source of encouragement to her!

Some campers believe that harsh speech is one of the most frequently offended. In the competitive world today, many seem to find difficulty to draw a line between being aggressive and being assertive. How to speak the Truth in a manner that is neither harsh nor flowery? Your camp servant's humble view is that the key lies in Sincerity.

A good father's desire that his children to wake up on time for school that manifests in his tone of urgency should not be branded as harsh. Sam, I hope your kids could read this. The Three Word Sutra, one of the Confucian Classics, stated that if a child is not taught what is right, that is the shortcoming of the parents. My humble sharing to you.

To my two campers who are good tutors nurturing our future generation: Confucius also said in the same sutra that if a child is not taught with discipline, it is the laziness of the teacher. My humble sharing to you as well.

There are also campers who are from the area of sales, where "Customer is always right". There is a difference between courtesy/etiquette and flowery speech. Behaving in a courteous and polite manner serves as a good lubricant in human relations. Flowery speech, on the other hand, are superficial and far-from-true remarks that are made with ulterior motives (mainly to appear in a good light to the listener to achieve some personal gains).

I congratulate many campers who expressed that they had wanted to do this for a long time. I thank you for walking this journey with me.

A good camper also asked which area of life does the above set of rules apply to. Does it only apply to our personal lives or will how we reflect in our respective blogs also count. Your camp servant is too shallow in her own awareness of speech to set the boundary. In answer to this: You draw your own boundary. You set your own limits.

To a beautiful camper who remarked that the whole world should join this humble camp, your camp servant is humbled and honoured by your kind comments and encouragement.

To all who joined at any time with a simple line with consent to enter this camp, your servant extends her warmest welcome.

To that special one that signed up the first few minutes that she has received the invitation with her sincere and warm expression of support, your servant is touched to tears.

Dear Campers,

Together we begin our week of No Lying, No Flowery Speech & No Harsh Speech. A simple wish to do the best we can. Achievements will be shared with joy and motivation to others and ourselves. Failures will also be shared to remind ourselves areas to better and serve as lamp posts to others who wish to walk the same path.

Any service that you might need (cleaning your tents ... for example), please inform your humble camp servant.

Your Camp Servant with Smiles,

WaterLearner

A small note: To remind yourself of participation in this camp, you are free to put up our camp logo on your good blog. Any links to the Say No Evil humble post would be deeply appreciated.

The Order of the Temple has been deeply enlightened by your wise words.

It is lamentable many of us lead lives that are often entwined in a circle of hypocrisy, surrounded by those that are (to quote someone) "internally distrusting, externally inspiring".

Hence your solitary word of Sincerity sums up, quite aptly, the missing essence of human nature these days. And may this serve as a daily reminder of how far we, as modern human beings living in a supposed First-World country, have fallen behind in this core aspect.

As such for the duration of this Camp, your blessed logo has been inscribed on a monolithic stone tablet erected outside the Temple Gates (i.e. the School Badges' widget on my blog), and may it be a shining beacon of light to implore all passing devotees not to stray from the Path.

Last but not least, the High Priestess would like to enquire about the your room service rates for this Camp. Does the Camp Servant provide any manicure services?
